El Comité de Trabajadorxs hosted a back to school vaccine event called “Healing Builds Community” that safely gathered over 150 community members, shared information and resources, held a know your rights training, vaccinated 17 people and made over 20 appointments. The event had hot food and take-home produce thanks to Everybody Eats Philly. El Comite is a working group within our Projects of Survival Programming that we co-facilitate alongside the Coalition for Restaurant Safety and Health (CRSH). Through this powerful event, El Comite received 89 in-depth responses to a worker assessment survey that revealed some pressing concerns around paid sick leave, low pay, and mental health. While doing all of this great work, El Comite continues to participate in a leadership development and politician education program; this year we focused on active listening, asking powerful questions, one-on-ones, and other communications tools for social change.
