215PA partners with Ya Fav Trashman to clean up road in Lawncrest

Date

Attending to the needs of our community is at the heart of our organization. During our conversations with neighbors in the Lawncrest neighborhood, we learned that residents were unhappy and concerned that the 5600 block Newtown Ave, known as Snake Rd, had become a haven for illegal trash dumping. In August, with the leadership of Dallas Herbert and members of 215PA’s Northeast Chapter, we began our work to clean up Snake Rd. We learned from neighbors that installing security cameras to prevent future dumping was one of the solutions to resolve the problem. This prompted us to start a petition in the neighborhood, which garnered over a 100 signatures, expressing our concerns to our local Councilmember about the need for security cameras. In addition, we organized a cleanup of Snake Rd that drew over 20 volunteers from the neighborhood and resulted in the removal of over three tons of trash and debris from the road. Our efforts were finally rewarded when we finally met with our Councilmember and gained confirmation of the camera’s installation.
